A Great Day at the Berkeley Show 2019
On Sunday 23rd June, B&A took part in the famous annual Berkeley Show, showcasing some of our vintage vehicles at our company stand. Attended by around 10,000 people, this year’s show was a huge success, enjoyed by many and helping to raise funds for local causes.
A Fantastic Day
We had a fantastic day, welcoming a huge number of people on to our stand. All of our vintage vehicles including our Bedford Tipper and Thames Trader proved very popular as did our brand-new CAT D6T LGP. The contrast between the vintage Foden and D4 CAT (hailing from the late sixties to early seventies) with the brand-new Globetrotter and new CAT D4 was especially admired, showing the marked difference between the old and the new.
B&A invited all the children to sign the brand-new CAT D4 blade as a mark of good luck. It proved so popular everyone wished to take part, including the ‘Funky Farmer’. By the end of the day, the blade was completely filled with signatures and drawings. All the children and numerous adults wished to have their photograph taken in the cab and many, under the guidance of Andy, found the magic button with the picture of a trumpet on it! Many a selfie was taken, alongside and inside all of our vehicles.
Some of our vehicles on display included a Porsche 1956 tractor and a vintage Foden low loader.
We spent Saturday setting up for the show’s opening on Sunday. Through the total skill and professionalism of drivers Andy McGreevy and Paul Coleman, we managed to get the larger vehicles over a very narrow bridge and onto the showground. The weather remained fine throughout the weekend.
The Berkeley Show is an annual event, held in Castles Meadows below the gorgeous backdrop of Berkeley Castle. People of all ages come together to celebrate all that is great in Berkeley Vale. Primarily an agricultural show, the Berkeley Show showcases rural life, focusing on traditional agricultural values whilst also aiming to educate the younger generation. Activities include show jumping, dog shows, livestock displays, live music, craft tents and more.
The show is organised by a team of volunteers under the chairmanship of Martin Grey. The President of the Show is Mr Charles Berkeley, with the whole Berkeley family being strong supporters of the Show. The show relies heavily on sponsors and this year B&A, alongside the NFU, Comparo and others, were delighted to be able to sponsor such a fantastic event.
Funds raised from the show go towards supporting local charities and bursaries of an agricultural nature, including supporting young students through agricultural college with several bursaries.
Thank you to all at B&A who gave up their precious time both on the day and in the organisation beforehand to produce such a fabulous display. Bristol & Avon would also like to thank all those involved at the Berkeley Show, there was an enormous amount of work undertaken to produce such a wonderful show. It was great fun.
