B&A Group achieves SMAS safety accreditation for fourth year running

As testament to our ongoing commitment to health and safety, Bristol & Avon Transport & Recycling has been awarded a SMAS Worksafe scheme certificate for the fourth year running.

The accreditation shows we are serious about H&S and have systems in place to ensure that any work we are engaged in is, so far as reasonably practical, carried out without risk to health and safety.

Helen Griffin, Health, Safety and Environment Manager at B&A Group, said: “We are delighted that we have been accredited again under the SMAS Worksafe scheme. This is a recognised scheme and demonstrates B&A Group’s strong focus on health and safety.”

“The certificate shows our customers that we have been independently audited and are fully compliant with health and safety standards and legislation.”

The SMAS – short for Safety Management Advisory Services – certificate is one of five accreditations held by B&A Group which attest to the health and safety competence of contractors working in the construction industry.

All of these ’Safety Schemes in Procurement’ (SSIP) schemes allow companies to quickly and easily demonstrate their health and safety competence to clients, without the need for individual audits.

To become accredited, B&A Group was required to provide detailed evidence of its health and safety systems and practices, from risk assessments to training.

Many construction companies and principal contractors will now only use service providers accredited to a SSIP scheme. This immediately provides B&A Group with a commercial advantage, along with other members of the scheme that demonstrate high standards of safety.

Kevin Berkely, Director at B&A Group, is proud of Helen and all employees for adhering to and supporting Helen and the company in achieving the accreditation year on year.

He said: “It has proved to be a worthwhile investment, and an accreditation that is fully supported by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE). It gives me and all our employees confidence and demonstrates that we are a company that places health and safety at the centre of our decision making, which is one of our core values’.
