B&A Group Welcomes Work Experience Student Jemma Parkinson
This summer, we have been delighted to welcome two local students into B&A Group headquarters to undertake work experience placements. You can learn about 16-year-old Gina Cox’s placement here.
We were extremely pleased to welcome Jemma Parkinson for her work experience placement in July. Jemma is a familiar face at B&A Group, helping us back in 2017 in the preparation of our Meningitis Now Fundraising event at the South Gloucestershire Show. Jemma, with her younger brother Leo, was a willing and enthusiastic helper throughout the weekend, proudly wearing the distinctive bright orange Meningitis Now t-shirt.
Not only did Jemma contribute fully over the week of her placement, working with individuals throughout the business, she also volunteered to return to help with the preparations for the launch of our beautiful B&A Group Meningitis Now hot air balloon, which debuted earlier this month. We thoroughly enjoyed having Jemma with us. Jemma displayed confidence, showing initiative and self-motivation with good communication skills. Jemma had a positive attitude towards her placement and a keenness to experience various aspects of a variety of roles within the business.
Jemma is a pupil at Gordano School, Portishead and will be starting Year 11 in September 2019. For her optional GCSE’s, she is studying Psychology, Spanish, Business Studies and Catering. Jemma’s passion is for horses and much of her spare time is spent at the Bristol Riding School where she has part-time ownership of one of the school’s horses, which involves caring for the horse.
I had a lovely time doing work experience week at Bristol & Avon. I learnt a lot about each employee’s job and the overall company itself. All the staff were helpful and friendly guiding me through their roles and how their jobs contributed to the business. I particularly enjoyed learning and helping with the marketing. It was great to visit Cameron Balloons and to see the construction of B & A Group’s new hot air balloon. I am definitely more confident about my abilities after my week at Bristol and Avon, the experience will certainly be of benefit in the future.
We wish all who undergo work placements at B&A Group to leave us more informed on the basic principles of the working environment. We also hope they leave with happy memories and some fun stories to share with their peers.
We were very pleased to present Jemma with an extremely well-deserved B&A Group goody bag and the team is thoroughly looking forward to her next visit. We wish her the utmost success in her ambition to have a professional career working with all things equestrian.
