Central Park, Severnside

Bristol , Severnside Land Distribution Limited

B&A Group have been working with Severnside Land Distribution Limited since 2010 for the importation of subsoil to raise development platforms above flood risk levels near the Severn Estuary.

There has been huge commercial investment in this area with large scale distribution units and warehousing being built to serve well-known retailers and brands including Amazon, DHL, The Range, Farm foods, Davies Turner and CHEP Pallets.

The proximity of Severn Road (A 403) and M49 motorway provides an excellent opportunity to connect the site to the local, regional and national road network, opening up the site and offering the potential of a development of strategic importance.

Environmental Permitting

B&A Group have been operators of a Bespoke Recovery Permit since 2010 for the importation of subsoil to raise development platforms above flood risk levels.

To date B&A Group have imported over 1.7 million cubic metres into this area.

B&A Group have recently completed one of the final plots, known as Area M&N, which was completed under the CL:AIRE DoWCoP using a Materials Management Plan.

Recent Works

B&A Group have recently completed one of the final plots, known as Area M&N, which covers an area of approximately 15.26 hectares (Ha) of relatively flat unused forested/ scrub land dissected by the A403 Severn Road.

The project required import of materials to raise site levels to an agreed level of 7.55 m AOD for flood mitigation purposes due to an increasing risk of large-scale tidal flooding. This involves raising the existing levels to take the site out of Flood Zone 3.

B&A Group Project Managed a large amount of ecological translocation and the creation of onsite attenuation ponds and ecological receptor areas for Great Crested Newts and other flora and fauna.

Added Value

Bristol & Avon obtained the Environmental Permit for the works, and successfully varied areas to extend the developable area as the distribution park progressed.

Through experience gained on other similar projects, solutions to problems were proposed and implemented to minimise the impact on the project.

The works have been carried out in phases to meet demand and scale of units being constructed.

Future Works

B&A Group are about to undertake a further phase of works for a new developer looking to construct a number of commercial units on this key scheme. B&A Group look to draw on a decade of experience to successfully complete this next phase of works.
