Viridor, one of the UK’s leading recycling and renewable energy companies are in the process of building a £252 million Energy Recovery Facility on an adjacent industrial site to B&A Group Headquarters in Avonmouth.

B&A Group are pleased to support the Clugston group, the appointed building and civils contractor over the next three years in the development of this brand-new recycling facility.

This is one of B&A Group’s biggest aggregate delivery projects since moving into our new headquarters in Hallen. We will be supplying over 200,000 tons of recycled aggregates to our new neighbours in over the next 3 years.

Ashley Bruno, our Recycling Aggregate Sales Manager comments ‘‘running a significant number of loads both in and out daily is a vast challenge, but one B&A Group will take in its stride. Our highly experienced transport team will ensure this project runs as smoothly as possible’’.

Ashley continues, ‘‘although this is local operationally, we need to ensure the material has been produced matching forecasted volumes, the trucks can act quickly and the B&A Group’s restoration locations can deal with large volumes of inert import. I’m pleased Viridor who are the client building the Energy from Waste Facility have approved recycled material to start their vision as they mean to go on.’’

The site which started construction this summer will be able to convert 320,000 tons of non-hazardous industrial waste that would normally go to landfill each year into renewable energy. A third of the available capacity of this new facility will be being taken up from Somerset County Council by diverting waste that is currently transported to three landfill sites.

When operational Viridor will generate around 34MW of low carbon energy, enough electrical power to supply 44,000 homes.

Viridor’s project manager at Avonmouth Helen Moon comments, “the Avonmouth ERF will form a key part of Viridor’s strategy to offer sustainable landfill diversion options to councils and businesses in the West of England. Viridor and its construction partners are committed to supporting local businesses and B&A Group are a key part of building strong foundations for the ERF.”

We at B&A Group could not agree more and wish Viridor, Clugston and all those involved in this exciting and demanding project a very successful next 3 years, we are pleased to be part of the team.
