Introducing Stuart

Following the exciting news earlier this year of the launch of B&A Stone Supplies, we’d like to introduce one of the newest members of the B&A Group team – Stuart Palmer. Stuart has joined us to work alongside Sales Manager Ashley Bruno and other new recruit Reeko Best in developing B&A Stone Supplies quarried aggregates provision to clients throughout Bristol and the South West.

Stuart joined in February as B&A Stone Supplies Business Development Manager. His key responsibilities are building our client base, offering cost effective solutions to customers. Stuart works directly with our key supply chain stakeholders, ensuring they have the ability to supply and service our needs on a daily basis.

He also works alongside our transport team, with our internal and external fleet of trucks and tippers to ensure the planning team are provided with the fleet to supply secured orders swiftly and efficiently.

Stuart brings 29 years of experience in the quarrying industry to his role at B&A Stone Supplies. His wealth of experience and expertise has already been invaluable as we develop this new service. Beginning as a planner, he then moved over to the commercial side of quarrying, taking on roles as a Sales Manager, Commercial Manager and Recycling Manager throughout his career.

When asked what he enjoys most about working at B&A Group, Stuart replied that the support from all corners of the business is ‘fantastic’.

‘It’s very active and very busy. You can be creative and develop yourself, your role and the business if you have the drive and enthusiasm that is part of the DNA of the business. I’ve only been here a short time but I’m proud of our office, our trucks,  recycling depot and proud to tell people about my new company.’

Experience During Lockdown

We spoke to Stuart about his experience during lockdown and how his work has changed over the past few months…

‘When we went into lockdown everything changed for myself and after a week I was furloughed, after 3 weeks I was back but in a whole new world.

Pre lockdown, much of my time was face to face interaction with customers either on site, in the office or at our HQ. On my return, this changed dramatically and email and phone has been the communication method of choice. Being a person that has spent the past 20 years actively face to face in the construction commercial world, this was a new challenge.

Since my return, I have worked from the office every day and currently you never look much further than the next day. Every call for aggregate is currently direct to myself, and we are working hard in all construction sectors to secure volume. Some sectors never stopped, some are slowly returning.

Being around Hallen every day you can now start to feel some of the old atmosphere returning especially when you get the long standing senior members of the Group team in together.

Every day is a battle but also a day closer to beating this virus. You miss the interaction with your colleagues, but what remains is help and support whenever it is required.

Visits to our customers are now slowly restarting as they return and it is safe to do so. Meetings that always used to start with a handshake and introduction now start with putting on a mask!’

Always Up for a Challenge

Outside of work, Stuart does not shy from a challenge. In 2017, he took up endurance running and since has completed runs from 10k to 100k. Some of his notable runs have taken up to 15 hours and included extreme terrain such as mountains and volcanoes. He enjoys watching motocross and supercross and has also taken part in events such as the notoriously difficult Ironman challenge. Stuart says, ‘if it’s long, extremely difficult, I enjoy it.’

Thank you Stuart for all your hard work and commitment over the past few months. We’re excited to see him continue to support and develop B&A Stone Supplies over the coming weeks and months.
