B&A Group Meningitis Now Hot Air Balloon

We have exciting and uplifting news in our bid to support Meningitis Now; we are proud to announce the introduction of our brand-new B&A Group hot air balloon supporting Meningitis Now. In our bid to raise awareness for our designated charity, Kevin, Aidan and Clare Berkely commissioned world-renowned balloon makers Cameron’s of Bristol to create a wonderful hot air balloon in our company colours that will be seen flying over the skyline of Bristol for many years to come. The production of this balloon will hopefully take us to ‘greater heights’ in our aim to raise awareness of this deadly disease.

Making her debut in the wind and rain of this year’s Bristol Balloon Fiesta, our B&A Group Balloon certainly cut a dash amongst the 57 balloons in the mass accent on the only morning the pilots were able to fly.  On the Thursday evening, the B&A balloon was one of the few on display in the main ring and was the ideal opportunity for Steve Dayman the founder of Meningitis Now to view the Hot Air Balloon for the first time.

Steve comments, “B&A Groups latest joint venture with Meningitis Now is a brand-new Hot Air Balloon. Adorned in B&A and Meningitis Now logos which confirms a truly remarkable partnership which has lasted for over 40 years. In addition to this, it enables Meningitis Now to continue to promote meningitis as a disease of national importance.”

Our balloon, registered as G-Jima in honour of B&A Group founder Jimmy Berkely, was also seen at the Sky Safari Longleat, a 3-day balloon extravaganza where we were in the company of pilots & balloons from all over the world, taking part in mass ascents over the glorious Longleat estate and surrounding areas as well as being in our first night glow

More than 150 balloons were on show. This year’s bonanza featured a number of animal shaped balloons with the usual glows and mass ascents. The event concluded on Sunday when 30 balloons were tethered together. Our pilot,Rob was joined by special guests Gloria and Steve Dayman. It was great seeing everyone there.

Bristol Half Marathon

Here at Bristol and Avon we are always trying to find new and interesting ways to raise money for Meningitis Now.  Through attending events like the South Gloucestershire Show, cake bakes, themed hampers and our ever-popular pop-up-lunches we have raised a significant amount of money for Meningitis Now. Our current total of over £67,000 has been raised through attending events like the South Gloucestershire Show, cake bakes, themed hampers and our ever-popular pop-up-lunches.

With this in mind, 10 brave and intrepid souls volunteered to enter this year’s Bristol Half Marathon, which took place on Sunday 15th September.

  •   Helen Griffin – Head of Environmental Operations & Development.
  •   Dr. Rob Lewis – Remediation Project Manager.
  •   Ben Higham – Commercial Manager.
  •   Izabela Papros – Transport Administrator.
  •   Karolina Kapitanovaite – Transport Administrator.
  •   Siobhan Clarke – Administrator.
  •   Ashley Bruno – Sales Manager.
  •   Dan Pursey – Transport Logistics Assistant
  •   Paul Pritchard – Environmental Engineer.
  •   Ashley Hill – Yard Operative.

Winding through the city centre, along the Avon Gorge and under the Clifton Suspension Bridge, the 13.1 mile route encompassed many of the historic landmarks of Bristol and was a fun day out for all who attended. The team fitted training around both work and family commitments and on Sunday were raring to go, wearing orange t-shirts supporting both the B&A Group’s logo and that of Meningitis Now, standing out as they made their way around the course, running as a team. Despite the scorching heat, the team all made it to the finish line in great time. Lots of friends and family came to support the team and give them encouragement along the way. Taking part in the Simply Health Engie Business Challenge, we are proud to announce that our teams B&A Chasers and B&A Pacers both claimed 1st and 2nd place overall for mixed teams in medium-sized companies!

Not only that, the team has raised over £5,000 to date, with more donations still coming in, taking our total to over £73,600 raised in aid of Meningitis Now.

Thank you so much to all those who supported our fantastic team of runners. If you’d still like to donate, click on the link below to make a donation via our Virgin Money Giving website, using the code – Half Marathon.
