£2000 raised thanks to the Meningitis Lorry
As you are no doubt aware, Bristol & Avon Group made a pledge to raise £100,000 for Meningitis Now. It’s a huge target to reach but there is no stopping us and so far we have raised £35,282.60! – not far until we’re halfway off our target. This incredible total has been helped thanks to the Meningitis Lorry, which raised a significant £1,706 in total throughout 2016. A generous payment of £100 was also given on Virgin Giving by PH Waste, which we’re extremely thankful for.
Many of our team members have so far got involved with fundraising alongside the lorry; Tough mudder was a great success with members of the Transport department taking part. We have had numerous cake sales and raffles for holiday and hand made hampers. We also had a win a car competition at the infamous VW show in June. We were the main charity at the South Glos Show, with people on the ground selling raffle tickets for the amazing prizes donated by the wonderful companies in and around Bristol. One of our vehicles was used in the stunt show and we can’t wait to work along side the South Glos Show again this year. Lets hope we can beat the fantastic total of £3500 raised during the show this year.
In 2015 Marc Large completed two triathlons and took part in a golf day with some of the drivers. The Bristol and Avon waste drivers competed in a karting event, and Karen and Clare went on a two-day trek in the Lake District and climbed 8 different peaks.
Scott Pike and his wife Tanya took part in the “Dirty Dash” obstacle challenge last July and the office team canoed down the river Wye with another Peter Hadley, accomplishing this on his own. Jade and Karen Beale have also walked four miles as part of the Five Valleys Walk. Many of our staff have also been sacrificing some of their salary towards the cause, alongside many other challenges and events.
There’s still plenty more to do and lots of time to add funds to our ever-growing total. Our decision to raise money for Meningitis Now is a personal one due to our close connection with the founder of this amazing charity, Steve Dayman MBE. We’re planning on continuing to raise money throughout 2017, which will go towards life-saving research, support for those who need it and further awareness of the devastating impact that meningitis can have.
